The Premier League is finally back in season entering week 5 this weekend. The majority of Charleston cares more about college and NFL football than soccer, which is fine with me because there are only a few bars dedicated to soccer that put on Premier League games. For me, there’s no better way to watch the games this season than with a drink and a bunch of other fans at a pub or bar. Here are the 5 best bars for watching EPL games in Charleston!
Local 616 is right near the bridge entrance / exit on Meeting Street. They’ve got a cozy pub-feel with a pool table and a few TVs. Local 616 was one of the only bars in Charleston we know of that played almost every Copa America and European Cup this summer. The owner is a big Arsenal fan and they’re guaranteed to have almost every Premier league game on (maybe unless NFL overrides it but those rarely have scheduling conflicts).
They also have a pop-up from Weems Ramen every Monday, from 6 – 11. Plus for those in F&B, on Mondays you can make your own discount card with a shot and drink of your choice!
O’Brion’s is an awesome Irish Pub right inside the Ion neighborhood just within Mount Pleasant. The interior is completely lined with dark Mahogany giving it an authentic pub feel, with the sports bar aspect of massive TVs lining every wall including the outdoor covered patio. College Football and NFL games draw a crowd here, but there’s a European community in Ion that goes for Premier League games. This is the only bar on this list where soccer likely wouldn’t take priority, but it was packed for every World Cup game (check out the best bars for the World Cup).
They’re happy hour is weekdays from 4 – 7 pm with $1 off all liquor.
There’s nothing like sipping some Guinness and watching soccer with some Irish regulars on a Saturday morning. O’brion’s also has a sister location in James Island, check it out here!
EOBC’s reputation speaks for itself, after all the founder is credited with creating Charleston’s brewery district. But it’s lesser known that the brewery taproom is an official affiliate bar of Arsenal and draws big groups of fans for each game. The inside is lined with vintage Arsenal merch and there are plenty of TVs to watch from any seat.
They’ve also got Power Hour from 4 – 5 pm on weekdays with half off everything consumed in house. Perfect for the second half of those 3 pm kick offs.
On a side note, I recently discovered that the official Premier League organization has a “Bar Finder” website that shows the affiliate bars and which club they support for cities across the US. It’s a great tool if you’re in a city without Bartopia😉, check it out here.
One of the more well known soccer/Premier League bars in Charleston, you can never go wrong with watching games at the English Pub. My Father’s Mustache has a big wooden bar and has a beautiful mix of pub and dive bar feel to it.
They’re Happy Hour is Monday – Friday from 4 – 7 pm with 25% off all appetizers, $3 domestics, $1 off all drafts, and $4 well drinks. They also have billiard tables, shuffleboard, video games and a dart room!
A while back they lost their streaming license because while on the waitlist for new packages, they were using personal accounts and got caught. If you went during this time (as I did) it was a real bummer but they’ve got it figured out and are back in action!
My Father’s Mustache also opened a second location on James Island!
Finally my favorite place for all Premier League games, Madra Rua in the heart of Park Circle. Arguably the most authentic Irish Pub in Charleston, it’s completely decked out in dark Mahogany and they play every single Premier League game and have 2 sided bars with TVs in view from bar seats and tables.
I once watched a Liverpool vs Manchester United game and it ended up being all Liverpool fans on one side and all Man United fans on the other. It was one of the best environments I’ve watched soccer in. They also are an official affiliate bar for both Liverpool and West Ham United but there are fans from all different teams for most games.
Madra Rua has a full outdoor bar and patio too, but personally I prefer inside for watching games. They always have rotating food specials during the week and a $10 burger special on Wednesday nights!
You can browse these on Bartopia by searching “Premier League” or clicking our logo below.
I hope you’re as excited as I am for this season and found some new spots to watch the games. If you’re watching at any of these spots, tag us on social media because I might be sitting right next to you, plus we’ll also repost it. Cheers and as always, happy drinking!
