Additional Details

  • OPENED IN THE SUMMER OF 2014, Leon’s Fine Poultry & Oyster Shop is a comfortable Southern joint serving fried chicken, oysters, lots of salads, cheap beer, soft serve, Rose on tap, tons of grower Champagne, and good cocktails. The restaurant is housed in an old body shop that belonged to Leon Ravenel—a businessman that served Charleston residents for many years. The space preserves much of that industrial history, complete with functioning garage doors, concrete floors, and some remaining memorabilia from Leon himself. When we opened the restaurant, we wanted a comfortable, lived-in, familiar oyster bar, inspired by some of the joints we had visited throughout the South. A lunch at a loved soul food spot in New Orleans inspired us to bring fried chicken into the mix – an offering that has since become a LEON’S staple. To lighten it up, we sought to bring in lots of vegetables and salads. As with any true neighborhood restaurant, LEON’S is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner – and throughout the day, the kitchen doesn’t close. We believe you should be able to stop in at any time of day and have a proper experience without being limited to an abbreviated menu. We’ve been fortunate enough to have been welcomed by Charleston and beyond. LEON’S has been recognized as a leader in Charleston’s food scene by Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, Conde Nast Traveler, New York Times, James Beard Foundation, Travel & Leisure, EATER, and more, and we look forward to welcoming you to our little corner of King Street.
